Alura Trailer designed and manufactured a fully equipped 40ft mobile workshop trailer for delivery to Cuba, creating a transportable maintenance facility capable of supporting heavy vehicles and equipment directly in the field.
Developed under Alura project 19.103, the workshop was engineered as much more than a conventional enclosed semi-trailer. The complete unit integrates its own power generation, compressed-air system, tyre maintenance equipment, lubrication and fluid management systems, welding equipment, lifting devices, washing equipment and a comprehensive range of professional workshop tools.
The result is a mobile technical facility designed to bring essential maintenance capability directly to the operating fleet instead of repeatedly transporting vehicles and machinery to a permanent workshop.
Project: 19.103 Mobile Workshop System
Configuration: 40ft Trailer-Mounted Workshop
Destination: Cuba
Application: Heavy Vehicle & Field Maintenance
Manufacturer: Alura Trailer – Turkey
The large 40ft platform made it possible to divide the mobile workshop into functional working areas while still providing sufficient space for machinery, workbenches, storage and service systems.
Inside the trailer, the layout combines fixed workshop equipment with mobile maintenance tools. Industrial workbenches and storage cabinets provide organized working areas, while utility connections and service equipment are positioned throughout the body to support technicians during different maintenance operations.
The project was developed around practical field-service requirements. Instead of installing equipment simply to fill the available space, the workshop was arranged to allow technicians to perform mechanical repair, tyre service, lubrication, welding, drilling, grinding, fluid transfer and general vehicle maintenance from one mobile platform.
One of the most important requirements for a field workshop is the ability to operate independently from permanent infrastructure.
For this reason, the Cuba mobile workshop incorporates a 22 kVA standby / 20 kVA prime diesel generator with 380/220 V output. This provides electrical power for the installed workshop machinery, service equipment and auxiliary systems.
Compressed air is supplied by a 12 bar, 550 litre/minute compressor combined with a 300-litre air receiver. The compressed-air network supports pneumatic tools, tyre service operations, fluid-transfer systems and general workshop use.
Three air-conditioning units were also integrated into the project to provide a more suitable internal working environment for technicians operating in Cuba's warm climate.

A particularly important feature of this mobile workshop is its ability to support heavy vehicle tyre maintenance in the field.
The project incorporates a professional tyre removal system designed for 14 to 30 inch rims and tyres weighing up to 1,000 kg. This makes the workshop suitable for substantially larger wheel assemblies than those found on ordinary passenger vehicles.
High-torque pneumatic equipment was also supplied for wheel removal and installation. Together, these systems allow technicians to perform heavy-duty wheel and tyre service close to the operating vehicles rather than depending exclusively on a fixed tyre workshop.
The Cuba project was also designed as a comprehensive mobile lubrication station. Multiple fluid circuits were installed for supplying oils and grease during scheduled maintenance operations.
The system uses dedicated tanks, pneumatic pumps, automatic hose reels and metered dispensing guns. Three separate 250-litre oil tanks provide storage for service fluids, allowing different lubricants to be carried and dispensed from the same mobile workshop.
A dedicated grease dispensing system was also incorporated for heavy-duty lubrication tasks. The combination allows technicians to perform routine fleet lubrication and fluid servicing directly in the field.
Servicing oils and lubricants in a mobile environment also requires an organized method for collecting used fluids.
The workshop therefore incorporates a dedicated waste-oil circuit including pneumatic transfer equipment, hose reel, floor collection equipment and a 500-litre waste-oil tank.
Separating fresh and used fluids helps create a cleaner and more controlled maintenance process while allowing waste oil to be stored until it can be transferred to the appropriate disposal or recycling system.
The mobile workshop also incorporates diesel fuel handling equipment. A dedicated 500-litre diesel tank, transfer pump, hose and metered dispensing equipment allow fuel to be transferred directly from the workshop when required.
This adds another service capability to the trailer and reduces the number of separate support systems that may otherwise be required at remote operating sites.
Cleaning is an important part of maintenance, particularly before inspection, repair and component removal.
The Cuba workshop was therefore equipped with a 200 bar cold-water pressure washing system capable of delivering approximately 900 litres per hour.
An integrated water tank, hose reel and washing gun complete the system, allowing vehicles, components and working areas to be cleaned as part of the maintenance process.
The trailer provides more than routine servicing capability. It was also equipped for mechanical repair and fabrication work.
A professional welding machine, portable drilling equipment, cutting and grinding machines and a full-size column drilling machine allow a wide range of repair and fabrication tasks to be performed from the workshop.
This type of equipment is particularly useful when a field maintenance team needs to repair brackets, modify components, drill parts or perform emergency fabrication without access to a conventional workshop.
Heavy vehicle maintenance requires appropriate lifting and support equipment. The project therefore incorporates several different lifting solutions for different service operations.
The main hydro-pneumatic jack provides staged lifting capacities of 15, 30 and 45 tonnes. Additional hydraulic jacks and heavy-duty jack stands provide support for other workshop operations.
A 1-tonne chain hoist with a 5-metre chain was also included for handling components inside the workshop.
A mobile workshop is only effective when technicians can quickly find and access the equipment they need.
The interior therefore incorporates heavy-duty Alura workbenches with multiple drawers and cabinets, together with industrial storage lockers and organized tool areas.
A comprehensive professional hand-tool package covers general mechanical, wheel-service and automotive electrical operations. The workshop also includes dedicated socket sets, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, measuring and cutting tools, drilling accessories and other maintenance equipment.
Rather than treating these items as independent equipment, the complete installation was planned as one working system in which tools, machinery, utilities and fluid systems can be accessed from the appropriate service areas.
Electrical equipment is managed through a central control panel, while strategically positioned electrical, pneumatic and service connections provide access throughout the workshop.
Automatic electrical and air hose reels help keep cables and hoses organized during operation. External LED work lights provide additional illumination around the trailer for maintenance carried out outside the body.
Fire extinguishers and other workshop safety equipment were also incorporated as part of the complete installation.
The principal advantage of a mobile workshop is not simply mobility. It is the ability to move a substantial amount of technical capability directly to the fleet.
For operations where trucks, construction equipment or other heavy vehicles work far from permanent maintenance facilities, transporting every vehicle to a central workshop can increase downtime and operating costs.
A trailer-mounted workshop changes that model. Technicians, machinery, tools, lubricants, compressed air, electrical power and service equipment can be deployed together as one mobile maintenance unit.
The photographs below show the actual 40ft Alura mobile workshop trailer and its internal workshop installation produced for the Cuba project.
Project 19.103 demonstrates how a semi-trailer can be transformed into a complete mobile maintenance facility rather than simply serving as a transport platform.
The engineering of a mobile workshop begins with the customer's actual maintenance operations. Vehicle types, tyre dimensions, required lubricants, workshop machinery, electrical demand, compressed-air consumption, lifting requirements and available working space all influence the final design.
Alura Trailer develops both trailer-mounted and truck-mounted workshop systems, as well as containerized mobile workshops. Depending on the application, projects can focus on general maintenance, lubrication, tyre service, welding and fabrication, hydraulic service or a combination of several workshop functions.
Mobile maintenance facilities are particularly valuable for fleets operating in remote locations, large industrial areas, mines, construction sites and regions where access to permanent workshop infrastructure is limited.
By integrating workshop machinery, utilities, tools and storage into a transportable platform, a maintenance team can establish a capable field workshop wherever the fleet is operating.
Alura Trailer manufactures these systems in Turkey and configures each project according to the customer's operating requirements, vehicle fleet and destination. The 40ft workshop supplied to Cuba is one example of this project-specific approach.
