NEW PRODUCT · DRAWBAR TRAILER CHASSIS
New Product: 2-Axle Drawbar Trailer Chassis
Alura Trailer introduces its 2-Axle Drawbar Trailer Chassis, a bare chassis platform developed for box body installation by a specialist bodybuilder. The configuration combines a 6,000 mm chassis length, a drawbar-operated turntable steering front axle, a fixed rear axle and a reinforced rear mounting area for tail lift integration.
Designed as the foundation for a completed box body trailer, the chassis brings together structural steel construction, heavy-duty mechanical leaf spring suspension, WABCO electronic braking and the mounting provisions needed for the next stage of bodywork. The final body, tail lift and towing vehicle interfaces are coordinated around the agreed transport requirements.

A Structural Platform for Box Body Installation
The chassis is specified in ST-52 steel or equivalent structural steel. Its welded construction incorporates a continuous perimeter frame, internal longitudinal beams and closely spaced transverse crossmembers, forming the supporting structure for the body installation.
Mounting provisions allow a specialist bodybuilder to install the selected box body. Coordination of the body mounting points, rear equipment and intended load arrangement forms part of the final project definition.
6,000 mm Chassis with Turntable Front Steering
The chassis measures 6,000 mm long and 2,500 mm wide, with an overall trailer length of 7,800 mm. The dimensional specification includes a 1,800 mm drawbar projection, a 4,000 mm wheelbase and a 1,000 mm rear overhang.
An A-frame drawbar connects through an articulated arrangement to the front steering assembly. The front axle uses drawbar-operated turntable steering, while the rear axle remains fixed. The towing eye is selected for compatibility with the towing vehicle.
Both axles are equipped with heavy-duty mechanical leaf spring suspension. Final axle ratings and load distribution are established after the required mass specification, body weight and rear equipment have been confirmed.

| Requested mass specification | 18,000 kg - to be confirmed as either gross trailer weight or payload before final axle ratings and load distribution are established |
Mass specification: The requested 18,000 kg figure is not a confirmed payload or gross trailer weight rating. Its intended meaning must be agreed before final axle ratings and load distribution are established.
Tail lift and body scope: The stated 800 kg refers to the lift's own weight, not its lifting capacity. Tail lift and box body supply are separate unless expressly included.
WABCO EBS and Dual-Line Pneumatic Braking
The braking package combines a dual-line pneumatic system with WABCO EBS, including ABS functionality, air reservoirs and associated control valves. A spring brake parking system is also specified.
Brake air couplings, the EBS electrical connection and the lighting connection are matched to the towing vehicle. Confirming these interfaces during project planning helps define the completed trailer's connection requirements.
Two Tyre Configurations
The reference specification offers two wheel and tyre arrangements:
- 315/80 R 22.5 twin tyres, with compatible rims.
- 385/65 R 22.5 single tyres, with compatible rims.
The final tyre arrangement is selected together with the axle ratings and intended operating requirements. Mudguards and mudflaps are provided for both axles, and a spare wheel carrier is included in the additional equipment specification.
Reinforced Rear Area for Tail Lift Integration
The rear chassis mounting area is reinforced to accommodate a tail lift with a self-weight of 800 kg. This value describes the weight of the lift assembly itself; it does not state the load that the lift can raise.
The final mounting arrangement is developed around the selected lift. Rear underrun protection is arranged to suit the installation, with the lift, box body and chassis interfaces considered together.
The box body and tail lift are supplied separately unless expressly included in the agreed scope. The chassis specification provides the preparation and mounting provisions for their integration.
LED Lighting, Protected Wiring and Chassis Equipment
The lighting specification includes a complete LED trailer lighting system: rear position, brake, direction indicator, reverse and rear fog lamps, together with front position lamps, side marker lamps, outline marker lamps and number plate lighting.
A protected wiring harness with weather-resistant connectors supports the electrical installation. Rear triangular reflectors, front and side reflectors, and conspicuity markings are included as applicable.
Side underrun guards are fitted between the front and rear axles. The additional equipment package includes wheel chocks with holders, a towing eye support arrangement and a number plate bracket.

The specified surface finish comprises steel surface preparation, an anti-corrosion primer and finish paint in the customer's selected colour. The colour is confirmed as part of the final chassis specification.
Defining the Completed Trailer Specification
Project planning brings together the intended load, box body specification, selected tail lift and towing vehicle. These inputs establish the completed trailer configuration and provide the basis for final axle ratings and load distribution.
The requested 18,000 kg must first be identified as either gross trailer weight or payload. The box body and tail lift weights must also be considered when defining the final mass specification.

View Technical PDFFrequently Asked Questions
What is the Alura 2-Axle Drawbar Trailer Chassis?
It is a bare chassis drawbar trailer designed for box body installation by a specialist bodybuilder. The configuration includes a turntable-steered front axle, a fixed rear axle and preparation for a rear tail lift.
What are the main chassis dimensions?
The chassis is 6,000 mm long and 2,500 mm wide. Overall length is 7,800 mm, including a 1,800 mm drawbar projection. Wheelbase is 4,000 mm and rear overhang is 1,000 mm.
How does the front axle steering work?
The A-frame drawbar connects to the front steering assembly through an articulated connection. Steering movement is transmitted through the drawbar-operated turntable front axle, while the rear axle remains fixed.
Which tyre options are available?
The specification offers 315/80 R 22.5 twin tyres or 385/65 R 22.5 single tyres, each with compatible rims. The final selection is confirmed with the axle ratings and operating requirements.
What braking system is specified?
The trailer is specified with dual-line pneumatic braking and WABCO EBS, including ABS functionality, air reservoirs and associated control valves. Parking braking is provided by a spring brake system.
Does 18,000 kg refer to payload or gross trailer weight?
The requested 18,000 kg figure has not yet been defined as gross trailer weight or payload. This must be confirmed before final axle ratings and load distribution are established; it is not a confirmed payload rating.
Does the 800 kg tail lift figure describe lifting capacity?
No. The 800 kg figure refers to the tail lift's own weight, not its lifting capacity. The rear mounting area is reinforced to accommodate this self-weight, with the final mounting arrangement matched to the selected lift.
Are the box body and tail lift included?
Box body and tail lift supply are separate unless expressly included in the agreed scope. The chassis includes body mounting provisions and a reinforced rear area for the selected tail lift.
